Once upon a very long time ago (last June, to be exact), Creating Keepsakes magazine asked two members of the Lawn Fawn design team to make layouts showing a creative use for Lawn Fawn's hemp cord for an upcoming feature in one of their issues. Then Creating Keepsakes went through some editorial changes and moved lots of things around, and our layouts at in limbo for many months. Last week they finally decided to do something with mine and posted it to their blog, so I can finally share it here, too!

And this, my dear friends, is why I don't submit to magazines- I hate the waiting! I'd much rather share here on my own schedule (which is usually just as as soon as possible!) than hold pages out until I find out if they've been picked up for publication. It's so much more fun for me this way!

This layout was done so long ago that Lawn Fawn's Bright Side paper line was still new, and I used the gray and kraft chevron prints to piece together "hills" that I then lined with Lawn Trimmings hemp cord, and a few hand-cut snowflakes from Lawn Fawn's Frosties set finished off the embellishments for this page about our crazy snow kayaking adventure a couple of years ago (there's also video of the insanity if you click through that link...).

As I'm writing this (a few days in advance) I think I hear sleet outside my window, though I doubt very much that we're going to get any snow- much less the kind of accumulation that would make another round of snow kayaking possible!

february 2013 gardeners' digest {giveaway}

Friday, February 22, 2013

It's the 22nd of February, which means that it's time for another edition of the Gardeners' Digest!

Each month the Garden Girls at Two Peas in a Bucket organize a little blog hop to share some of the things that we're working on and being inspired by, and this month I've got a giveaway to share, too! If you arrived here from Julie Campbell's lovely blog, then you're making your way around the hop. If you get lost, or if you just want to start at the beginning, you can always jump back to the start page on the Two Peas blog!

March 1st will find a new crop of Garden Girl projects in the Two Peas gallery, and you can see a tiny snippet of my upcoming layout below. I had such fun mixing old + new products on this one!

I've recently hit the "Like" button on the layouts above, all from the Two Peas gallery. Click on the thumbnails to see any of them in more detail- the Peas are always so inspiring!

Color, color, color, and more color, please! All of the items above are filled with beautiful color, and oh-so-functional on your layouts at the same time! They're all from different collections and manufacturers (and one is even digital!), but I think they'd work together nicely.

1. Rainbow Chevron tape from the Color Me Happy collection by Glitz. 2. Journaling card paper from the Collectable collection by My Mind's Eye. 3. Girl journaling cards from the Love You More collection by Pebbles. 4. Sundrifter collection paper pad by Studio Calico. 5. Eye Candy digital journaling cards by Just Jaimee.

And now for the giveaway! Simply leave a comment on this post to enter to win a spot in Wilna Furstenberg's new Art Class workshop at Two Peas! Wilna has put together an inspiring class to bring more (he)art to your layouts- check out the video below for more details!

Entries for this giveaway will be open through Thursday, February 28, 2013 at midnight CST. I'll email the winner on March 1 to get them set up with their spot! And, if you've already purchased this class, or if you simply want to sign up now and not wait for the contest to close, no worries! Two Peas will refund the winner's class fee if they've already registered!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Lilith Eeckels is next up on the hop!

friday favorites on thursday | february 21, 2013

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Since tomorrow is the big monthly Garden Girl blog hop (and I just might have a workshop seat to give away then- hint, hint!), I thought I'd bring you this week's round of Friday Favorites a bit early. And, just a note for next week- I'll be taking a break from Friday Favorites entirely due to a full slate of layouts (including one with a video!) and a hop with Citrus Twist Kits on Friday. The weekly picks will return the week after that, though!

This week there's quite a mix- Lightroom, blogging ideas, sketches, Project Life, layering, creative process- you name it, it's here!

  • Jill Cornell shares tips for stamping and heat embossing on vellum in a guest post at Shimelle.com.
  • I {Lowe} Scrap posted a great tutorial on adding layers to your scrapbook pages.
  • Eric and Julie Comstock share some of the artistic process behind the design of two of their new paper lines, Sweet Disposition and Honky Tonk.
  • I've recently discovered Page Drafts, a new-to-me sketch site that just celebrated its first birthday. They release several sketches all at once in a big monthly release, and they're simply fabulous!
  • Learn how to make this itty bitty tag mini album at Evalicious.
  • If you haven't heard of The Craft Mom yet, you really need to check it out! I met owner Lorrie McCullers at CHA, and she has an absolutely fabulous site that posts all the greatest deals in the crafting world in one convenient location, including all the scrapbooking daily deal sites!
  • I thought I was organized with my Project Life process until I read Christine Newman's (aka Listgirl) post about how she mocks up her PL layouts in Lightroom before printing. She also shares a video tutorial that's definitely worth checking out! As a side note, Christine's process bounces off of Liz Tamanaha's (Paislee Press) process of using Photoshop to pre-plan her Project Life spreads.
  • Heidi Swapp shared a fun sketch for her Memory Files, and there are two more ideas for using it here and here.
  • Stuck on ideas for blog post topics? Erin Vale shares a list of blog post idea resources to get you started.
