Darren made pancakes this morning and used my fun Star Wars pancake molds.

The Force was definitely strong with this breakfast.

Friday Favorites - It's a Hot Week for Some Cool Crafting

Friday, July 30, 2010

Oh, wow, is it ever hot outside! I ran a 5K last weekend, and even with an early start time of 7am it was already blazing hot and humid. We were all so slow!

This is the perfect time of the year to enjoy the outside for a little while, then escape indoors for a little air conditioning and crafting time. Here are some projects that caught my eye recently, and I just might try one or two this weekend.

From left to right:
  • Okay, how genius is this? Keisha Campbell's idea to stitch sand and shells from a beach vacation right into a page protector is simply amazing. I have lots of jars and ziploc baggies full of this stuff that I need to get into albums!
  • If you're traveling with small kids this year, then this cute little coloring book idea from Kristina Proffitt might be the perfect thing to pack into your carry-on. How cute are these little sets of stamped tags that she turned into a coloring book?
  • I can't get enough of all these handmade flower embellishments! Check out this gorgeous multi-layered bloom by Monika Wright.
  • This ice cream party in a box would make the cutest care package ever! Get the scoop (no pun intended) on Marta Writes.
  • How's this for making the most of your space? Check out this amazing craft room in an Airstream trailer (via Design Sponge). If you're out of room inside your house, this might just be the way to go.
  • Elle's Studio has been featuring a fun baby book on their blog. The pages are adorable and leave room for either a single large photo or even a collage of smaller photos. What a great gift for new parents! Be sure to also check out part 2 and part 3.
  • Elise Blaha has another great mini album on her blog. This one is full of so many fun colors and textures!
  • Feeling like your photography (especially event photography) is starting to all look the same? Paperclipping has a great article on how to be your family's photojournalist, including some practical tips on what type of shots to get and when to put the camera away.
  • And once you're done taking all those photos, jazz them up with some free Photoshop Elements actions from Coffee Tea Photography (via Sharyn Carlson). There are tons to choose from!
Have a scrappy weekend!

Camp Scrap Update

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

I seem to have taken a looooong break from my Camp Scrap layouts, but I did manage to carve out about 30 minutes Sunday night to make another. I'm totally head over heels with this one- it so totally reflects my personality.

See those little butterflies? I'm so proud of those! I found logos for all my favorite sci-fi shows on Google Images and printed them as 1" squares, then punched them with my Martha Stewart butterfly punch.

And while it was fun to work with a very recent photo, I'm still enjoying going back and picking up some older photos, like these of Father's Day 2007. I finished this layout more than a week ago and am just now getting around to posting it!

And these photos are from Halloween in 2005. If it's starting to look like all we ever do for Halloween is carve pumpkins...well, yeah, that's about it. :)

And for the biggest Camp Scrap surprise of all, I won a drawing for a pack of Jillibean Soup goodies!! They were so amazingly generous with this giveaway. The package arrived on my front steps more than a week ago, and it included two complete lines of their paper (I'm swooning over the paper lantern print), a set of stamps, ribbons, buttons, and all kinds of other goodies. Just look at all they sent to me!

Here's hoping that I'll get a lot more Camp pages done this week- class officially ends tomorrow at noon. Yikes!

Pink Ninja Addicts July Blog Hop

Monday, July 26, 2010

The Pink Ninjas are at it again with another awesome kit this month, plus a blog hop with a chance for you to win some cool prizes.

July's main kit, "Please Play This Song On The Radio," makes me want to get out my old double-deck cassette player (remember those?) and make a new mix tape of songs recorded from the local Top 40 station. Oh, those were fun days. :)

One lucky winner in the blog hop will win a complete kit, and three other winners will get some awesome handmade goodies, crafted by the ninjas themselves.

While you're checking out the goodies, be sure to note the awesome sale the ninjas are running right now on some of their past kits. I was super excited to pick up Don't Get It Twisted for $20! Such a fun, funky, bright kit- I'm already plotting the projects I want to make with it.

CHA Favorites: Part 2

Saturday, July 24, 2010

Welcome back to part 2 of my favorites from the CHA sneak peeks we've seen so far. I honestly wasn't expecting much out of this show, but a lot of manufacturers have really stepped up and come out with some amazing new stuff.

Take Pink Paislee for instance. I'm in love with their new lines. Every. Single. One. I've already gushed about their Halloween line, but they also have three others (I don't have photos of it here, but I love Paresian Anthology that they're doing in conjunction with House of 3).

Old School is probably the only school themed paper I've ever liked. Most school papers are childish and cutesy-themey (not even Basic Grey got school papers right in my opinion), but Old School is just classic and classy. Love all the grids and ledgers. Oh, and all of their new lines include index-card sized journaling spots. Too cool!

Sweetness is Pink Paislee's "Valentine" theme line, I think. Normally the pink would turn me off, but it's mixed so well with bright yellows and grounding krafts that it just works for me. I love the peonies and the whole vintage vibe this line has going on.

Speaking of vintage vibes, Crate Paper has absolutely nailed one with their Restoration line. I am so in love with the bright colors and funky vintage motifs in these papers- I may have to break my own rule and buy two of each.

Basic Grey has only teased us with these little sneaks so far, but I'm totally digging the colors that I'm seeing, and I bet the travel line will be amazing!! I'm sure I'll be back with a whole post on nothing but Basic Grey's offerings. :)

There are some embellishments and odds and ends that have caught my eye, as well, like these adorable vintage-print chipboard buttons from Jenni Bowlin Studio.

And how sweet are these paper medallions from American Crafts?

Oooh, and Prima is coming out with some of the most gorgeous journaling spots. Must have!

And Prima also has a fantastic looking line of masks on the way out. The air balloon is my favorite of this set.

I'm always at a loss as to what to use for mini album covers, and I think that these antique book style covers will find their way onto some of my future minis.

And speaking of minis, Maya Road has this adorable pennant banner album planned for their upcoming release.

::sigh:: So many pretties, so little budget!! Let the preorders begin!
