I'm Heading to CHA Winter 2016 + Sneak Peek Page Is Up!

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Hi, everyone! Apologies for the silence around here, but Star + Bee has been super busy for the last two months and has kept me hopping!

I do have a bunch of papercrafting projects that I want to share here and am working up the posts for them as I have time, but I wanted to pop in really quickly today to let you know about two things.

First, I've started the sneak peek roundup page for CHA Winter 2016 (also known as the CHA Mega Show). You'll find it here and also linked under my blog header. There's also another page dedicated to mid-season releases that have come out since the CHA Summer season. Many of these are shipping now, and you can find that page here (and also linked under my blog header).

Second- and I'm so excited about this- I will be attending CHA Winter 2016!!! I've been granted a press pass to once again cover the show on my blog, and I'll be there for three days taking photographs that will be posted here in my usual booth-by-booth coverage in the days/weeks following the show. I will also Instagram and possibly Periscope (I am @scrappyjedi there) if I can get a decent wifi connection from the show floor as I'm walking. If you have any requests for something you'd like to see covered, please leave a comment below!

Thanks so much for your patience with my lack of blogging. If only I had 48 hours in a day! I will be back as soon as I can!

Lawn Fawn October 2015 Inspiration Week // Winter Scripty Sayings

Saturday, October 17, 2015

Hello, and welcome to this month's Lawn Fawn Inspiration Week festivities! There's a lot going on over at the Lawn Fawn blog (including some pretty big giveaways), and I'll be sharing my own projects here on my little corner of the web.

Today Lawn Fawn is featuring the Winter Scripty Sayings stamp set, and I decided to use it in a simple, easily reproducible card design that would be perfect for quickly making lots of handmade Christmas cards.

Once I had the initial design down, it was really easy to crank out duplicates of this card! I started with a white card base and then used the largest Stitched Rectangles die to cut pieces of glitter paper (I used the DCWV Glitzy Glitter Stack) and sheets from the Let's Bokeh in the Snow 6x6 paper pad. I curved the bottoms of both pieces of paper using the Stitched Hillside dies (turns out they're just as good at shaping card edges as they are at making hills!) and adhered them to the card base with the glitter offset just a bit from the patterned paper.

One of the cool things about clear stamps is their flexibility (literally!), and I curved each of the stamps on the lid of my MISTI (you could also use a big acrylic block), using the cut-off portion of the glitter paper as a guide. I used Lawn Fawn inks in colors that matched my patterned paper choices, but it would be fun to experiment with different combinations of metallic inks or heat embossing, too.

The rest of the Lawn Fawn team has cooked up some fabulous projects using both these stamps and the new Scalloped Rectangles Stackables dies, so be sure to hop on over to the Lawn Fawn blog to check it all out!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I'll be back tomorrow with other card that may or may not have you singing a little Let It Go.

Lawn Fawn // September Inspiration Week

Friday, October 16, 2015

So, obviously I'm posting just a bit more sporadically than I intended! Star and Bee had its biggest month ever in September, and October is already looking like it's going to be even bigger!

I completely missed posting my September Inspiration Week projects here, though I did get them finished in time to post on the Lawn Fawn blog. You may have seen them over there already, but I thought I'd post them all here with a little background information before the next Inspiration Week starts...tomorrow. There are two layouts and four cards to show, all in one post, so let's get started!

Lawn Fawn's Let's Bokeh in the Snow is part of their Christmas release, but when I was scrapping this page in early September, all I could think of was the beach! I was at our house in Mobile (where Darren is in school), and Dauphin Island is less than an hour away. We've driven there a few times just to wander around, and I had some photos from our most recent trip printed up. They paired nicely with the aqua blue and off white patterns in the collection, and I added in some embossed vellum circles (made with the Let's Bokeh stamp set) and sequins to create a sort of watery, bubbly look.

The next layout proves that I was in no way ready to scrap anything remotely winter or Christmas related...instead I pulled out some state fair photos from a couple of years ago and used some blues and greens on my page. This layout was actually inspired by the Baah Humbug stamp set, and I heat embossed one of the cute little sheep in gold (again on vellum...can you tell that vellum is one of my favorite things?) to use as an embellishment.

This card using the Scripty For You die and Let's Bokeh stamp set is probably one of my favorite things that I made for September's release. I used the solid circle stamps from the set and lots of different colors of Lawn Fawn's ink (I just love the coverage they give!) to make a rainbow of bubbles, then layered up four die cuts from white cardstock to make a dimensional die cut to adhere in the middle.

All the cards in my last set of projects to share today were made with the Merry Christmouse stamp set (exclusive to Simon Says Stamp for their Stamptember promotion), which sold out in an insanely short amount of time (the dies were gone in under 24 hours!)- so short that they didn't even get posted to the Lawn Fawn blog because the stamps were gone before the post was scheduled to go up!

I had a lot of fun coloring these images with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers (try saying that 5 times fast!), and I actually started out just coloring and die cutting a bunch of images without any real idea of how I would eventually use them on cards. Sometimes when I scrapbook I like to make elements in batches- embellishment clusters, backgrounds, etc.- and then figure out how to use them later. The same thing can work really well for cards, and is a great way to take advantage of the days you feel like just coloring vs. the days you feel like designing things and gluing stuff together.

I have another pair of layouts, a card, and a card set ready to go for this month's Lawn Fawn Inspiration Week, and my plan is to get those posted in a more timely manner- starting tomorrow!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!
