Friday Favorites: Banners and Garlands

Friday, July 9, 2010

Yummy, yummy! I had dinner tonight with Darren at Pane e Vino, and it was superb. They make the best pizzas (I had black olive, prosciutto, and mushroom on mine) and tasty salads (Darren had the antipasti). Oh, and the prices are very, very reasonable, so there was no guilt involved. :)

Now it's time for me to settle in for a weekend of crafting and cleaning. Oh, and baking, since I have a birthday party to cater tomorrow! So let's get to the picks for the week, shall we?

Banners and garlands are a hot item in both home decor and scrapbooking right now. There are so many styles, they are so easy to make, and they can add a lot of color while still maintaining an open and airy look. Today I've got nine examples of gorgeous garlands, some with tutorials, to share with you.

From left to right:
  • This beautiful tissue paper pom-pom garland on the Tattered Angels blog was made using white tissue paper that was then spritzed with Glimmer Mist. Isn't the varied coloration just lovely?
  • Ally Scraps shares this adorable paper medallion garland, complete with instructions for making your very own.
  • I love this garland used as gift wrapping on Paper Crave.
  • Here's another colorful 3D garland on Hambly's blog, again with instructions.
  • Check out the SEI Lifestyle blog for instructions on making this 3D flower garland
  • Isn't this tissue paper flower banner just beautiful? And it's so simple to make- check out Prudent Baby for the how-to.
  • This half-circle banner from The Gilded Bee is so simple, yet so completely stunning.
  • Find instructions for making this paper star garland on Martha Stewart.com.
  • And, finally, if DIY'ing a garland is not your thing, This Neck of the Woods has many beautiful handmade varieties to choose from in her Etsy shop.
Have a scrappy weekend!
