I found myself giddy with excitement this month as I waited to see which kit club had been selected for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge. I used to get almost as excited about reveals when I subscribed to kit clubs, but I find that there's just a little bit more to look forward to now as I realize that a) it's not going to cost me anything to get this kit and b) it'll be a fun project for me to put my kit together.
This month's selected kit comes from Scraps of Darkness- an edgy club that reminds me a bit of Bad Girls, but with a dark side. Their February release, The Telltale Heart, is full of deep purples paired with rich damasks and brocades and reminds me of my Halloween Glam article last October, just with a slightly different color palette.
I took the whole vibe and ran with it, rummaging through my stash to come up with this kit.
I opted to not use so much red in my kit and instead stuck to deep, plummy purples. I love how they contrast with the greys and am already dreaming of several layouts I'd love to make with this. The papers are a mix of Basic Grey's Bittersweet line, Saffron from Die Cuts With a View, along with some American Crafts and Making Memories thrown in for good measure.
I decided to go heavier on the embellishments this time around since I kinda skipped that last time. It wasn't difficult at all to find several things in my stash that worked perfectly!
I also took the time to add some neutral cardstock in (my favorite these days). Any of these shades will contrast nicely with the paper selection.
I'm so, so happy with this kit that I can hardly stand it! I must use it soon!

It's been a super long time since I did a Geek Girl post, though I've been bookmarking links of stuff like crazy to share with you guys. Today's post is all about some awesome geeky merchandise that's available (or in a few cases that I just wish was available).
This Star Wars travel poster (and several others you can see if you follow the link) fall into the latter category. I would so buy one or two of them if they were printed- Star Wars and travel are two of my most favorite things!
For travel closer to home, this Star Wars windshield cover is awesomely cool. I'm already thinking of getting a license plate that says TARDIS, though (since my tiny, tiny car is bright blue)- do you think that having one of these would be mixing metaphors too much?
Geeky fashionistas will appreciate this R2-D2 dress. I don't know if you can buy this exact one or not, but there are tons of nerdy clothing items available on Etsy. Seriously, just check out all the Jayne hats alone!
This Star Wars opening text crawl dress is simply a work of art!
The C-3P0 swimsuit I'm not too fond of (though I'm kinda digging those boots for my Mara Jade costume).
Do you get the feeling that not even the model likes this Yoda bathrobe? Seriously, he looks all depressed, as if his career couldn't possibly sink any lower. Now, if this were available in an infant size, I'd be all over it for my niece.
Speaking of my niece, my brother managed to score one of these awesome Star Wars ABC books (presumable for Sophie) before they sold out. It's simply too cute for words!
Techno geeks definitely have a lot to choose from when it comes to geeky merchandise. These R2-D2 headphones are just one of the latest products to be released.
If you're move Who-vian than all that, then this TARDIS speaker may be more your style.
HD geeks rejoice, for the Star Wars saga will be coming out on Blu-Ray in September!! It'll feature deleted scenes and a whole host of other special features. Unfortunately, Han will not be shooting first in this one. Grrr!!
Oooh, and speaking of geeky video, how about that awesome Star Wars themed ad from Volkswagen during the Super Bowl?!!?
Want to deck out your iPhone in true geek style? Check out these awesome LEGO cases! Yes, you can actually use these as building bases for Lego blocks.
While you're at it, grab a Hello Kitty/Star Wars themed iPhone wallpaper from Hello Wars. The HK Stormtrooper is my favorite!
Linus as Luke Skywalker. 'nuff said.
This amazing starfighter bed is actually available for purchase! Too bad I have no prayer of fitting it into the master bedroom at my house.
And, finally, (and because I really just wanted an excuse to include this picture), scientists are a step closer to creating an actual Sonic Screwdriver. Too cool!
Until next time, geek out, peeps!!

The title should probably read "Nearly Dead from Boston." I put in almost 100 hours at work this week in the software integration lab and maxed out both the amount of overtime and the amount of comp time I'm allowed to charge per week...by 6:30 last night! My coworkers and I were zombies by the time it was all over, but it. is. done. now.
Whew! I still have another week to spend here, but it'll be normal hours and nothing like the craziness that comes with trying to get software through a test event. And a bonus? I was out of the lab tonight in time to get takeout from Legal Seafood and spend a little crafty time in my cozy hotel room (and I slept until 9 this morning- yippee!). I've already busted out one layout and plan to do more once this is posted and my Snapfish prints are ordered.
Want to see some pretties before you start your weekend? Of course you do!! So let's get on with it, shall we?

From left to right:
- Karen Grunberg has created the prettiest color-themed tag album. Love it!
- I love inspiring workspaces, and the home office of sfgirlbybay is so organized and decorative at the same time!
- Check out Pinefeather for everything you ever wanted to know about using glitter in your papercrafting.
- Francine Clouden created these awesome map-covered wooden letters for her son's room. I totally adore anything with a map on it!
- I totally busted out laughing when I read Pugly Pixel's "How To Spot One Of Those Darn Bloggers" post. So, so true!! (Says the girl who hauled out her camera to take a photo of the Crate and Barrel store this morning.)
- Scrapbook and Cards Today has tons of great ways to use cupcake liners in papercrafting. Some really cute stuff here!
- Love this idea from Papertrey Ink- they show how to make a flip book for trying out different color combinations. They sell one of their own, as well, but I'm totally thinking about using some of my patterned paper scraps to make one.
- Amy Tan created the cutest mini while on a trip to Hawaii and shares tons of details about how so scraps on the go.
- Making Memories shares a gorgeous mini album made by Wilna Furstenburg. So sweet!
