project life 2012 - week 23.jpg

Way back in July and August when I was trekking back and forth to Ohio on work trips every other week, I toted along my Project Life album along with a Studio Calico kit or two and worked on getting a few weeks' worth of photos caught up. And then I arrived back home to a huge box of DCWV goodness and decided to go ahead and do weeks with those collections and post them right away, so these weeks have been waiting patiently to be posted for quite a while now!

While I was really happy to plow through several weeks of layouts in such a short timespan, there are some that I absolutely had to make myself sit down and do- like this one from the week Griffin died. I didn't take a lot of photos that week (I was pretty drained), so I ended up filling in spots with receipts, bits of packaging, and whatever else I could find to take up space. And, yes, that's a photo of my bathroom on the right-hand page. It's where Griffin spent his last night at home (he had to be isolated from the other cats so I could monitor his food/water levels), and something in me just wanted a photo of that before I cleaned it all up.

Some weeks are better than others, but it's all life and it's all in the album. And there are happy photos here, too, like a trip to the farmer's market (when I decided on Saturday that I had to get out for a while), Darren coming home from his trip to Kenya, and adventures in grilling.

If I could sum this one up in a few words, it would be "life goes on."

paper trees

This week's usual Monday Project Life post has been postponed until tomorrow, because today Lawn Fawn is unveiling a whole slew of projects featuring the new Fa-La-La Christmas paper collection over on the blog, including one of my layouts!

The colors in this line include lots of traditional reds and greens, but there are also hints of aqua and blue- not to mention those fun chevron trees in the stamp set! Those trees gave me the idea for this page, actually, since I've had this photo of a set of pretty paper trees at Anthropologie printed and ready to scrap since sometime around last Christmas.

It wasn't the trees that I was really interested in documenting so much- rather, it was Darren's reaction to them. He loves Anthropologie as much as I do (especially the really comfy couch), but when he saw these trees he looked at me and asked if the point of Anthro was to spend lots of money to look as poor as possible. I had to giggle and agree with him on that one (though I do love those little trees- they were just a crazy price!).

I know I've seen DIY instructions for similar trees somewhere on the web- I might just have to hunt them down and make my own this Christmas. :)

star wars celebration vi | day 3

Sunday, September 23, 2012

As I mentioned earlier tonight, I took an absolutely epic number of photos (I edited more than 375 of them!) on Day 3 of Star Wars Celebration VI. Since it was Saturday it was the biggest day of the event, meaning that it drew the most people and the most costumes. It was also the day that J and I didn't have a schedule full of panels and book signings, so we were out on the show floor a lot more (and finally got to take pictures in a bunch of the photo ops!).

I was pretty easy to spot walking around the show floor on any given day. I picked up that lightsaber poster tube attached to my backpack during the first hour of the first day, and it came in handy to tote around all kinds of posters, prints, and handouts that we picked up while walking around.

See what I mean about the massive crowd? Saturday at Celebration is insanely packed!

It doesn't matter what kind of shoes you wear to an all-day convention, your feet are going to hurt no matter what and by the end of the day even the most comfortable shoes are going to annoy you. I alternated between Chacos and Vibram Five Fingers (my TrekSports, to be specific) each day, and the changeup seemed to work well for me.

I spied a scout trooper and a sand trooper while standing in line and got my costume photography off to an early start. There's so much more of this to come!
