Geek Girl is coming to you just a bit early this week since tomorrow marks the start of Lawn Fawn's June Inspiration Week, and I'll have a new layout to share with you then!

There's been some great and not-so-great geeky news this week. Starting off with the good, the date for the next Star Wars Reads day has been announced! Mark your calendars for October 5, 2013 and keep an eye out here for events being scheduled in your area.

And the bad news? Matt Smith has announced that he's leaving Doctor Who after the 2013 Christmas special airs near the end of this year. Oddsmakers are already taking bets on who the Whovian replacement will be, and while I'd love to see Benedict Cumberbatch take the role, I think that's a bit unlikely at this point. A new companion and a new Doctor in the same year- that's a lot of change!

And now for this week's geeky picks!

From the top left:
  • Katie at Punk Projects posted a fabulous tutorial for making your own Star Trek science officer laptop sleeve.
  • This awesome Angry Birds Star Wars cake is just one of many geeky cakes on display at Nerdalicious.
  • Think Geek has added a new Star Trek "Command Shirt" to their merchandise lineup. Now you can, as they say, look all sleek, modern, and Cumberbatch-y.
  • This bollard-turned-Dalek is one of the most epic examples of yarn bombing ever! Check out the details at Boing Boing.
  • James Hance is one of my favorite geeky artists ever (he's the genius behind the Winnie the Pooh/Star Wars mashups), and recently he's added portraits of the modern Doctor Who incarnations to his lineup. I might just have to hang good old "10" in my office!
  • Lisa Moorefield's blog is full of scrappy goodness that I love to link up in my Friday Favorites posts, but recently she posted an R2-D2 craft DIY that's definitely Geek Girl worthy!
  • Knights Archive featured a set of Star Wars propaganda posters by Cliff Chiang. So many great posters, so little wall space!
  • I discovered this charming Up! inspired engagement ring box at the aptly named Incredible Things.
  • Check out Captain America and many of the other Avengers on sugar cookies at Food Beast.

And in today's video picks, we have a look at how Star Wars characters eat their food and a chuckle-worthy set of Star Wars Infomercials.
