Scrappy Favorites: Tiny Letter Stickers

Monday, January 31, 2011

One of the cool things about blogging or Flickr-ing your layouts as you scrap them is that it gives you a place to quickly scroll through all your pages in the order you create them and not necessarily the order that you place them in your albums. I've been doing a bit of this lately, and I've noticed a few trends emerging in my scrapping. I wanted to share one of them with you today and will probably do so periodically in the future. The layouts I'll share will be ones that I've blogged previously.

So, what's the trend that I'm noticing today? Tiny alphabet stickers. Sure, Thickers are awesome, but sometimes you just need to fit more lettering on a page than larger lettering stickers will allow. Enter these tiny marvels, which are available in a myriad of colors and styles.

The layout above, about my trip to Orlando last summer, uses lots of My Little Shoebox's Mini Alphabet stickers both in the title and journaling. MLS makes mini alpha stickers to match each of its paper lines, and for this CHA it looks like they're putting out three sets for every line- yippee!!

Jenni Bowlin has a line of tiny alphas, as well. I've not bought any of these because I'm not a fan of the black lines at the top and bottom of each letter, but I do appreciate the fonts and the color selection.

I recently bought several sets of the Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphas (this is one item that I allow myself to buy tons of since I use them so often), and I'm impressed with the sheer number of stickers that you get on each sheet. Have I mentioned that these are cheap? Usually $1.50-$3.00 a set for several hundred stickers.

The only thing I'm not sure I'm crazy about with Tiny Type is that all of the letters aren't the same height, so they don't line up neatly. For most layouts that's okay, but it could be a problem for some.

Making Memories may have been the first manufacturer to come out with these stickers- they were certainly the first I encountered when I received the black set below in a Studio Calico kit several years ago. I still have and use this set today, more than three years later, so they really last a long time (and I've used it a lot).

Now Making Memories has a set to match almost every one of their new paper lines.

October Afternoon calls their tiny alpha stickers Mini Market and produces them to match their paper lines. I bought a couple of these in my last scrapbook supply order but haven't tried them yet.

Rumor has it that Jillibean Soup is also coming out with some kraft colored mini alphas, though I've only seen one picture of them so far.

Here's a look at some of the layouts I've used mini letter stickers on lately.

On this layout, I used them in conjunction with Thickers to make a long title. This is probably one of my favorite ways to use mini alphas.

Here the little letters are used for the date- they're quite useful for journaling, too.

One again I used tiny letter stickers with some larger alphas to make a long title.

And again here...

...and here of my Halloween layouts from last year. They're also great on these two layouts because they take up less page real estate and allow me to get more photos in.

They're used again here as part of a long title, or maybe this is a subtitle.

And here again they're used as part of a longer title in a spot where the sketch the layout is based on indicated the subtitle should be placed.

Mini alpha stickers are a great way to add a little extra lettering and a little extra color to your pages without taking up a lot of space physically or visually. Plus, they're totally affordable! They're definitely one of the best values in scrapping.
